Canadian wildfire smoke is expected to worsen air quality in the New York area starting Wednesday as stormy weather lingers and flight disruptions remain widespread at airports.
The smoke isn’t expected to reach the levels seen in early June but it could pose health issues for vulnerable people and limit visibility.
The city’s Health Department projects that air quality levels will be in the moderate range on Wednesday, between 51 and 100 on the air quality index (AQI), but will get worse tomorrow as the wildfire smoke, which has lingered over the upper Midwest the last few days, heads toward the east.
