The Nassau County Legislature will hold a public hearing December 9th for residents to weigh in on the environmental impact on a proposal to develop the Nassau Coliseum into a $6 billion casino and resort. The hearing is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building on Franklin Avenue in Mineola.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and Sands Casino are vying for one of three downstate casino licenses expected to be issued by state officials late next year.
Opponents to the plan say that the proposed casino could impact local water supply, create traffic congestion and generate more waste. But supporters say the casino would be an economic boost for the area.
